At the 14-16 June 2011 International Committee for Aviation Training in Extended Envelopes (ICATEE) meeting in Amsterdam, APS was selected to lead the 4th generation envelope protected and automated aircraft break-out on industry upset prevention and recovery training integration.

ICATEE Fly-by-Wire (FBW) Group Leader: Paul BJ Ransbury, Aviation Performance Solutions (APS)
Industry Participants: Airbus, Lufthansa, the International Federation of Airline Pilots' Association (IFALPA), the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), Alaska Airlines, Opinicus, KLM, Boeing, the National Transport Safety Board (NTSB), the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO), Dutch National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), and the Sabena Training Academy.

Purpose of ICATEE FBW Flight Envelope Protection Working Group on Upset Recovery Training Needs

To confirm, or determine, specific UPRT training elements relevant to the operation of “flight envelope protected, fly-by-wire” and advanced “automated” airplanes with respect to Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT). Due to the sophistication and level of automation of these airplanes, the identification of these training elements are crucial to the development of effective training plan recommendations. At this point in time, ICATEE feels the delivery of the training associated with these training elements should likely be accomplished via academic media and the use of type specific Full Flight Simulators or Flight Training Devices as deemed appropriate in the final training recommendations.
